Ahead of their first ever participation in the CAF’s premier interclub competition, the CAF Champions League, Remo Stars had a feel of the Cape Coast Stadium on Saturday evening.
The pitch was weedy and bumpy. Sports Village Square overheard the match commissioner telling the grounds men on the need to work on the pitch ahead of the Champions League first leg of first round pitching Remo Stars against Ghanaian champions, Medeama SC.
The pitch was soggy as mud marks were all over as Remo Stars had light training. The match commissioner remarked that he hoped rain will not fall before the match as the pitch may become unsuitable for the match.
The 20-man squad as well as officials arrived the Kotoka Airport, Accra from Lagos after a 45-minute flight.
The team which flew aboard ValueJet airlines suffered delay in Lagos as landing rights were delayed by Ghana.
From Accra, the team then had a three-hour road trip to Cape Town and barely had an hour rest before going to the stadium to have a feel of the stadium’s pitch.
It will be recalled that the last year’s Ghana-Nigeria World Cup play-off scheduled for the Cape Coast stadium had to be shifted to Kumasi following the poor state of the Cape Coast pitch.
