This Friday’s meeting of the Confédération Africaine de Football  (CAF) in Rabat Morocco may decide on the dates for major competitions which have not yet gotten clear schedules.

The meeting will hold at the headquarters of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football.

Although Morocco has been allocated the hosting rights of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, there has been difficulties in allocating a date for premier continental competition as the summer window initially targeted has been taken up by the enlarged FIFA Club World Cup in June and July.

Most domestic leagues of the world often kick-off in August. Thus, release of African players for the Africa Cup of Nations at that period could pose challenges.

Also, for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be hosted this year in Morocco, a window is still been searched for. The months of July and August has been taken up by the football events of the Paris 2024 Olympics where two of the WAFCON teams – Nigeria and Zambia will be participating.

A November -December period could be an option for CAF, The CAF Women’s Champions League which is supposed to be an annual event is still in search of a date this year.

The league is in its fourth edition. The last edition was in Cote d’Ivoire in 2023.
