The current season of the Nigeria Premier League enters a new phase as the mid week matches begin this Wednesday.

Explosive matches of the ‘United’  and clashes of ‘Stars” highlight the matches of a season that cut the picture of being the keenest in the recent time.

Predictability seems a thing of the past as leadership at the table top keeps swinging. A possible table-top clash pitches old reliable, Shooting Stars against Remo Stars in Ikenne.

This Stars Clash is easily the Match of the Day.

Apart from the contest for the top position on the league’s log, it is also a battle of which team has the bragging rights in the South West.

Recent encounters, sometimes laced with bitterness, have been in Remo Stars favour as Shooting Stars are yet to regain their esteem of over three decades ago.

Past encounters have skewed in favour of Remo Stars who boast of two wins and four drawn matches.

Tale of the Tape: Remo Stars v Shooting Stars

  • Shooting Stars 1-1 Remo Stars
  • Remo Stars  2-0 Shooting Stars
  • Shooting Stars 1-1 Remo Stars
  • Remo Stars 1-0 Shooting Stars
  • Remo Stars 1-1 Shooting Stars
  • Shooting Stars 1-1 Remo Stars

A win on Wednesday by Remo Stars take the team to the top of the log, even with an outstanding match against Enyimba.

Victory for Shooting Stars shoots the team above their old rivals, Enugu Rangers who will have to wait till Thursday to attempt to wrestle the leadership when they face Lobi Stars.

A likely draw of Remo Stars and Shooting Stars will see both returning to fight the battle of supremacy when the league gets to the second stanza.

Enugu Rangers sitting at the top will wait till Thursday to confirm their rankings after six match days. Rangers will be away to Lobi Stars.

The Match Day 6 also throw up the fixtures of the Uniteds as Akwa United take on Rivers United while Plateau United host Katsina United.

Akwa United are yet to find their rhythm in the current season and will be hoping for a positive result when they host Gombe United who are currently fourth on the log.

The mid week fixtures run thus:

Wednesday

  • Akwa United v. Gombe United
  • Heartland v Rivers United
  • Kano Pillars v Bayelsa United
  • Kwara United v. Sporting Lagos
  • Niger Tornadoes v Enyimba
