This is probably the first time ever that the Nigerian governing body ever came out with a slogan in the prosecution of an Africa Cup of Nations campaign. ‘Let’s do it again’ has been resonating.
A slogan intended to build confidence that the Super Eagles can rule Africa again as they had done in 1980, 1994 and 2013.
For this reason, the best of the bests is expected in the selection into the army that will prosecute the ‘war’. The final selection is largely made of strikers, a pointer to the fact that Nigeria intends to be on the offensive.
However, many have been shocked about the omission of Gift Emmanuel Orban, an initial nominee in the Young Footballer category in the 2023 African Footballer of the Year Awards.
He has penchant for clinical finish and is hailed as the Europe’s league fastest hat trickster following his three goals scored within three minutes in a Europa Conference League’s 4-1 defeat of Istanbul Basaksehir by KAA Gent of Belgium.
Sports Village Square sought the views of an NFF official who declared that the Orban issue has been controversial and that his form of late has not been spectacular.
There have been claims that the player is a Togolese. It is however gathered that Orban was born in Nigeria to a Nigerian father in Benue State and Togolese mother.
He has options of which country he wishes to play for.
